Pork Chops, Kohlrabi, Collards, and more I hope you enjoyed your first week of the summer! We sure did. Deliveries went very smooth, which is always rewarding. This week highlights our amazing Berkshire pork via a thick cut pork loin chop. These boneless chops are cut about 1.5 inches thick, and each pack includes 2 chops ranging from 1 to 1.5 lbs per package. Extra chops will be available at the back of the truck for $6 per lb. Week 15 Winter Share

Wow, the last week of the winter came fast and we are really gearing up for summer.  I was out at the orchard last night picking up the apples for this week and Rich was kind enough to take me on a thorough tour of the orchard.  Everything was beautiful in bloom!  He is expecting an excellent year.  He says it has been some time since he has had so many blossoms, particularly on the cherry trees.  We are looking

This week returns one of my favorite seasonal products - ramps.  Ramps are a wild onion that is native to this area.  One of our farmers forages for it to get you these tasty treats.  Use them to make a pesto, toss them in pasta, roast them (or grill them) and serve on burgers or steak, and you can even just make a traditional "mess of ramps."  Check the web and our blog for more recipes. In addition, this week is

Winter Week 13

Lots of exciting stuff this week.  I went a little out of control on the budget, but I'll have to make that up some in the next couple bags (which are also quite exciting...although maybe a little smaller). In addition, please see below about a few very noteworthy events around Cleveland.  These are not Fresh Fork Market events; however, we are contributing to both. This week's bag - We have been waiting on the cattle to fatten out all winter, which is the

Week 12 Winter Share

I have lots to talk about this week! If you have the time, please read the article about milk below. I know it is long but I think you'll find it necessary. To get to the goods, just scroll to the bottom. This week's bag has a few themes: fresh pasta and sauce, a melon sorbet to warm up this ridiculous snowy day, and a whole chicken and vegetables. For an easy sorbet recipe, see our Vitamix Class Document from last year

Week 11 Winter

These past several days have been excellent weather for "sugaring." When the day temperatures get above freezing, particularly the 50s, and then drop down to freezing at night, the sap in the trees really runs. Last Friday in fact Allyson and I dropped off jars for the maple at a sugaring operation at 9 PM in Wilmot, OH. Aden called me earlier in the week and said that the sugar was going to run. We procured some jars and got them

Week 10 Winter Share

Pork chops, frozen green beans, frozen strawberries, oats, and more This week we continue to dive into our frozen stash. The jewel this week is frozen strawberries from Maurer's Fruit Farm. These will pair very nicely in a smoothie with some delicious Velvet View Yogurt or as a sauce to drizzle over pork chops, or even ice cream! The pork chops are our signature boneless, thick cut Berkshire chops. For those of you who like to stock up on them, we'll have

Week 9 Winter CSA

Freedom Rangers, Peas, Dragon-tongue Beans, Carrots, Rhutabagas, Potatoes, and more _DSC0722This week's special ingredient is something that we are very excited to offer.  It is a heritage breed chicken called a Freedom Ranger.  Our usual chicken, the Cornish Cross, is the typical commercial meat bird.  It has more white meat and large breasts.  The genetics have been perfected over the years by breeders to make the Cornish cross more "efficient."  From the
